Parlay - An interactive tool that allows for roundtable discussions
This resource is recommended as a supplement to the reading/writing students complete in class and is especially helpful for students who thrive in oral communication and struggle with reading/writing
A student is invited to the discussion table and will then either read an article or answer a series of questions, which can be planned by the teacher or chosen from a pre-set list
Content for the discussions are relevant, robust, and engaging
Students can complete these discussions with little guidance
Because s/he is present during the discussions, the teacher can offer additional support when needed
Student learning goals are clear and can be measured with a rubric that teachers can populate
Brainpop - Provides students with engaging, informative videos accompanied by activities to supplement their learning in a variety of subjects
With little guidance, students can watch the video, review the activity by answering questions, and take a quiz
There are no supplementary resources if the students perform poorly on the quiz
Quiz mastery is tracked so teachers can identify trends
Videos can move quickly, so an accompanying note taking tool is highly recommended
Videos have clear instructions and the use of closed captions allows for remediation for ELL and IEP students
EdPuzzle - A practical tool that allows access to thousands of videos on a variety of topics
Teacher can easily cut videos with the most important information, create their own content, add CFU questions to assess student mastery (MC and open-ended), add notes and voice overs, and much more
The source of videos vary in quality, and should be vetted accordingly.
There are no follow up questions or activities once the video is done playing, so be sure to supplement them with an activity
We Are Teachers + Home School Resources - Both offer a comprehensive list of resources from multiple sources and for various content areas.
Enriching things to do with younger siblings - This resource provides students with engaging and wide-ranging activities to do with their younger siblings at home, but none of the activities should not replace any core content that is taught.
Activities are sorted by age range, cost, educational level, and tech needs
Activities do not have measurable outcomes, ways of assessing mastery, or opportunities for practice.
