Computer Science

• FAQs: Computer Science For All - Answers from the DOE as of 3/25

• NJ Center for Teaching and Learning - Computer Science - Provides well-organized, comprehensive slide decks, student materials, and other interactive activities for all subjects.

• Great starting point to deliver content, but teachers may want to supplement with videos and zoom discussions to bring these materials to life and to increase mastery because the content (while stright-forward) is not very engaging.

• Students can practice via classwork and homework assignments but may need additional guidance, as directions are not always clear.

• Teachers are provided tests and re-tests for all units

Engineering

• CK-12 - Engineering - Textbooks that are organized by topic, easy to access, and accompanied by embedded videos and photos.

  1. • Signing up for an account is free and easy.

     • All resources are available in Spanish and some in Korean, Dutch, and Chinese

     • Students can annotate as they read, and their notes / highlights are saved for review.

     • Each section comes with review questions.

Music

• Solfeg.io - The free version of this program lets teachers use pop music to teach music theory vis a vis Google Hangout, and includes lesson plans and setup support

  1. • This resource can only be used with a synchronous teaching model.

     • Teachers can assign songs for students to practice, but there are no additional resources if they get stuck

     • Teachers can assign students homework, but there’s no formal way to assess mastery

• Smartmusic.com - This is a perfect tool for music teachers to assign music lessons to students and track their progress.

• Teachers setup their own classrooms, where students practice music live and get in-the-moment feedback

  • Because this tool is so popular (used to be a paid service), it may take a day to get your class setup

• The library is large, and the tools are mostly self-explanatory

• Work can be broken up into units and lessons, and teachers can provide feedback on all submissions

• Teoria - Interactive and highly engaging resource gives students opportunities to practice music theory lessons via flash players

  • • Students should videotape themselves play as a way of measuring outcomes

    • Articles and exercises help them learn how to listen for notes and keys.

      • Tutorials assist when students get stuck

    • Unfortunately, a student’s work doesn’t immediately connect back to the teacher, so it may be hard for teachers to assess mastery

    • Instructions are not very clear, so teachers will have to guide students to use this resource
