Standards of appearance are necessary to create and maintain a suitable environment for learning. Guidelines for school attire are designed to preserve this learning climate through acceptable standards of dress, to respect individual student rights of dress and grooming choices, and to allow for changes in customs, styles, and fashions. Students who do not follow the appropriate guidelines listed below will be subject to the discipline code as well as asked to change into more suitable attire for the school environment. If students are not able to obtain a change of clothes through either parental/guardian contact or from their personal belongings at school, they will be assigned disciplinary consequences. The administration reserves the right to make exceptions to the standard of dress policy for situations such as school spirit weeks and other themed weeks throughout the school year.
Clean clothing is expected. Inappropriate, immodest or offensive clothing is not permitted.
Cropped pants or shorts, dresses and skirts must be no shorter than fingertip length regardless of layered undergarments such as leggings, tights or nylons.
Shirts and blouses will be long enough so that bare midriffs are not exposed. Additionally, dresses, shirts and blouses must either completely cover shoulders or have straps that are at least 3 fingers wide. Tops cannot include plunging necklines.
See-through type clothing is not appropriate unless worn as a layer over clothing that meets dress code.
Undergarments must not be visible and must not be worn as outer garments.
Backless shoes may be worn but some classes such as Science & Physical Education have additional standards and may require students to wear more protective shoes as necessary.
Clothing and book bags imprinted with double meaning or crude phrases, or with drawings or slogans which appear to promote or condone the use of drugs or alcohol, contain profanity or sexual references, advocate violence or are otherwise offensive (i.e. Confederate Flags, hate speech, or anything that causes a major disruption to the school day), are inappropriate.
Hats, bandanas, sunglasses and hoods are not to be worn inside the building at any time.
Any chains (other than small, lightweight wallet chains), metal spikes, or sharp objects on clothing or accessories will be considered inappropriate.
