Being a practicum course, the course basically expects the MA LLE student to meet the following:
The course objectives above also appear in the LLE 280 course guide which will be made available through the course site at the start of the semester.
Summary of Practicum Tracks
Teaching a Small Class
Practicum students have to follow a specific language/ literacy strategy or approach; write a practicum plan (Teaching plan) discussing how they intend to teach a small class; and prepare a practicum e-portfolio showing the highlights of the entire practicum, videos of at least two sessions, and their reflections on the challenges and future potential of adopting a similar practicum plan. Some adjustments may be made to meet both the course objectives and the specific set of objectives of the school or formal learning environment in which the student chose to conduct the practicum in. Best for: Students who are actually teaching a language/ literacy class
Note: In light of the world dealing with COVID-19 Pandemic, a version of this may be done in either of the following setting: Blended Teaching and Learning, Remote Teaching and Learning (any variation of Distance Learning), or fully Online Teaching and Learning.
Individual Intervention
Students have to follow a specific language/ literacy strategy or approach to teach one learner who seems to be having difficulty in a particular aspect of language and/or literacy; write a practicum plan (Individual education plan) containing a diagnostic report discussing the case of the learner and the corresponding intervention plan to implement; and prepare a practicum e-portfolio showing the highlights of the entire practicum, videos of at least two sessions, and their reflections on the challenges and future potential of adopting a similar practicum plan. Of course, the learner should not be a son/ daughter or any other relative or family friend because the intervention and assessment may be a bit problematic. Best for: Students who are interested and are about to teach in the near future, especially to a small class or to learners having difficulty in language acquisition or reading literacy.
Note: In light of the world dealing with COVID-19 Pandemic, the individual intervention option may only be done in either Remote Teaching and Learning (any variation of Distance Learning) or fully Online Teaching and Learning mode.
Language & Literacy Program Immersion
Students have to write a case study report of a non-formal language and literacy program (LLP); make a practicum plan (Program Immersion plan) detailing their objectives and participation in the program activities and/or proposed projects or activities with the program, and prepare a practicum e-portfolio showing the highlights of the entire practicum, video of at least two sessions, and their reflections and insights relating the program case report to their overall practicum experience. Immersion in the programs, activities, and/or events of UPOU, especially of FEd and the UPOU Pahinungod may also be accepted (which may be conducted both online and face-to-face). Best for: Students who are more inclined toward developing and analyzing a language/literacy program
Note: In light of the world dealing with COVID-19 Pandemic, the program immersion option will be limited to doing practicum work within the programs in UPOU--LLE practicumers can either be gurong pahinungod volunteers or instructional designers under the public service involvements of the LLE program.
Language/Literacy Teacher Professional Development (TPD) Program
Students have to choose a specific language/ literacy teaching strategy or approach for selected language and literacy teachers; write a practicum plan for professional development program that suits the needs of the target teachers; and prepare a practicum e-portfolio showing the highlights of the entire practicum, videos of at least two sessions, and their reflections on the challenges and future potential of adopting a similar professional development program. Best for: Students who are more inclined toward developing and implementing professional development/ training programs
Note: In light of the world dealing with COVID-19 Pandemic, the TPD program option may only be done in either Remote Teaching and Learning (any variation of Distance Learning) or fully Online Teaching and Learning mode.
Specific details of and guidelines for each track are available in the course site reserved for registered students.
