A sense of place is important in creative writing because it gives life and essence to the story. I believe that it helps readers imagine where the writer came from and what kind of world they live in. I learned from the invited successful authors that our place can shape how we think and feel, and it can make our writing more real and true.
My “lugar lang” in writing is Davao, especially in Calinan. This is the place where I grew up and where I met many people who taught me lessons in life. I choose Calinan because this is where my memories are. This is where I experienced joy, sadness, growth, and dreams. The simple life, the people, and the stories around me inspire me to write about it in the future. I will write about Calinan because it is the place that is close to my heart, and it is the place that made me who I am today. It is my home. ❤️
