AgriBioPack
Valorizing Agrifood Residues for Bio-based Packaging Solutions
The AgriBioPack project seeks to revolutionize packaging in the Mediterranean food supply chain by developing innovative bio-based active packaging solutions.
Films, mats, and coatings, are designed to modulate the microbiome in Mediterranean products, effectively extending their shelf life and reducing food waste.
AgriBioPack is an international research project aimed at developing innovative bio-based packaging materials derived from agrifood residues. The project focuses on transforming agricultural by-products into sustainable packaging solutions capable of improving food preservation and reducing food waste.
By combining food science, biotechnology, materials science, sustainability assessment, and digital technologies, AgriBioPack seeks to extend the shelf life of traditional Mediterranean foods while supporting a circular bioeconomy in the region.
The project brings together 15 research institutions and innovation partners from across the Mediterranean area to develop new packaging materials, evaluate their performance, and assess their environmental and economic sustainability.
Project duration: 2024 – 2027
