Large quantities of residues are generated every year from Mediterranean agrifood chains, including fruit processing, olive oil production, and wine industries. These residues contain valuable compounds such as polysaccharides, fibers, proteins, and bioactive molecules that can be recovered and valorized.
AgriBioPack develops innovative strategies to transform these underutilized materials into bio-based packaging solutions capable of improving food preservation and reducing environmental impact.
The project integrates expertise in biotechnology, food science, materials engineering, microbiology, and digital technologies to develop active packaging systems that extend food shelf life while supporting the circular bioeconomy.
