The Mediterranean region produces large quantities of agricultural residues from crops such as olives, grapes, apples, and pomegranates. These residues still contain valuable compounds such as biopolymers, fibers, and bioactive molecules that can be used to develop innovative materials.
AgriBioPack aims to valorize these residues by transforming them into bio-based active packaging solutions capable of extending the shelf life of food products while reducing environmental impact.
The project combines green extraction technologies, microbiome-based solutions, advanced materials development, and ICT tools to create sustainable packaging systems for Mediterranean food products.
