Types of exams
The vast majority of your exams will be oral exams.
Some exams combine a written and an oral exam to achieve one summative mark.
Some exams are only written exams.
For specific information on how an exam works you need to look at the syllabus, available on Sapienza website.

Assessment
In the Italian assessment system, University students are assessed on a scale of 30 points.
The minimum to pass the exam is 18.
Students who perform a particularly brilliant exam can receive honours (30 e lode).
When they receive their degree, students can be assessed on a scale of 110 points. The minimum to receive a degree is 66, the maximum 110 with the possibility of receiving honours (110 e lode) at the discretion of the commission. This final mark is obtained by adding the starting mark, which depends on the weighted average of the marks obtained for the exams, and the points awarded for the thesis (max. 5 for a BA). On graduation and thesis see our dedicated section.
In case students do not pass an exam, they can retake it as many times as necessary on the other available dates. Retaking an exam does not influence the final mark.
Students have the option of refusing a mark if they wish to (and this does not influence the final mark either) and retake the exam on another available date.
