Benamy Turkienicz

Benamy Turkienicz is an architect from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, a master's degree in Urban Design from the Joint Center for Urban Design - Oxford Polytechnic and in Advanced Architectural Studies from the Bartlett School of Architecture/University College London, and a PhD in Urban Planning from Arkitektur S. from Chalmers University of Technology. He is a Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. He has published articles and books on urbanism, architecture and architectural design methodology and is the co-author of software aimed at analyzing architectural and urban design, among which CityZoom stands out. . Since its creation in 1995, he has coordinated the SimmLab-Laboratory for Simulation and Modeling in Architecture and Urbanism at the Faculty of Architecture at UFRGS. Among his contributions to the congress area are the guidelines for the development of the Cidade Saúde project (Health technology park in Porto Alegre), the feasibility study of the UFRGS Technology Park and the masterplan for the 4th District.

Elfide Mariela Rivas-Gómez

Mariela Rivas Gómez, PhD in Architecture and Urban Research, is a research professor at the School of Architecture, Art, and Design (EAAD) at Tecnológico de Monterrey. From 2006 to 2016, she served as a professor in the Urbanism program at Universidad Simón Bolívar in Caracas, Venezuela. During her time there, she held positions as the manager of the National Housing Council (1999-2001) and the Housing Institute, which was linked to the Government of the State of Miranda (2009-2016). In the private sector, she coordinated a dozen Physical Rehabilitation projects in Popular Neighborhoods and Urban-Environmental Projects in Venezuela. Her most recent work was in Monterrey, Mexico, where she led the Arroyo Vivo Project. She specializes in Remediation and Recycling, particularly in the Campana-Altamira initiative. In 2021, she conducted the Preliminary Urban Resilience Study of the Municipality of San Pedro Garza Garcia, NL, Mexico. In 2011, she was awarded the Medal and Diploma of Honor for Merit in the Single Class by Governor Henrique Capriles Radonski of the Bolivarian State of Miranda, Venezuela.

Flavia Curvelo Magdaniel

Dr. Flavia Curvelo Magdaniel works at the municipality of The Hague, The Netherlands, where she has advised urban planners and policymakers on concrete strategies to stimulate innovation in the Central Innovation District (CID) and the Technology Park Ypenburg (TPY) by coordinating spatial and economic policies (i.e. Exploratory studies CID and TYP). From 2016-19, she was a post-doctoral researcher of Real Estate Management at Delft University of Technology. In her PhD research at the same University, she studied the development of technology campuses in cities. This research positioned the built environment as a catalyst for innovation demonstrated by real estate decisions and interventions facilitating five conditions for innovation. The main focus of her research interests include innovative urban development, thriving economies of innovation ecosystems and developing innovation clusters.

Lars Martel Antoine Coenen

Lars Coenen is an economist geographer, and his interests revolve around the geography of innovation. He is internationally known for his work on regional and urban innovation and, in particular, for his pioneering research into the geography of environmental innovation and sustainability transitions. Lars was a full professor at CIRCLE, the Center for Innovation, Research, and Competence in the Learning Economy at Lund University, where he led a research group dealing with sustainability innovations and transitions. During his time at CIRCLE in Sweden, Professor Coenen frequently served as a scientific advisor to the Swedish Innovation Agency, VINNOVA. From 2017 to 2020, he held the inaugural 'City of Melbourne Chair of Resilient Cities' at the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is currently a Professor at HVL Business School, section for innovation studies at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.


Marta Rofin Serrà

Marta Rofin Serrà is the founder of Healthy Cities. She is an architect and urban planner, with a long professional experience in master planning, urban management, and the incorporation of health in urban development. She leads Healthy Cities, a start-up within Bax & Company and is the Director of the Postgraduate Course “Urban planning and health” at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). She is also a lecturer of the Master's degree in Community Health Promotion at the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU). In her work at Healthy Cities she develops urban health strategies, health impact assessment, research and training projects, and over the last few years she has led the design and development of the “Healthy Cities Generator” health impact assessment tool. She has worked in both the public and private sectors. During her work for the City Council of Vic (Barcelona) she drafted the city’s Master Plan (Catalonia Urbanism Award 2020), led the project "implementation of indicators and evaluation of the impact on health of urban planning" and coordinated the European project URBACT-Healthy Cities network. She has collaborated with the University of Vic, the Barcelona Provincial government (DIBA), the Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB) and several Urban Planning Authorities as an advisor for the incorporation of the health perspective in urban planning. She is the author of several publications, including the “Guide for incorporating health into master planning”, “Cities and Health” or “Urban planning for healthy cities”.

Victor Eskinazi

Victor Eskinazi is an associate architect at the international firm Sasaki. Since joining Sasaki in 2009, he has worked on several multidisciplinary projects in the United States, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Victor's experience includes urban regeneration projects, riverfront development, university campuses, mixed-use, and innovation districts. His work has been recognized by national and international awards, including the American Institute of Architects, the American Planning Association, the American Society of Landscape Architects, and the Society for College and University Planning. Victor holds a master's degree in Urban Design and Urban Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a bachelor's degree in Architecture from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in São Paulo, Brazil. He is also affiliated with the MIT School of Architecture and Planning, both as a studio instructor and researcher.
