The different subsets of the chassis have different tube requirements for their construction. Some of these subsets are permitted to have alternate material types used with sufficient documentation. This is mostly relevant to monocoque teams that can prove their monocoque can meet certain tube requirements. Some tubes are required to be made of steel no matter what. For example, even monocoque teams have to have a steel Main Hoop.
