pARENT rESPONSIBILITIES
Obtain an instrument in good playing condition prior to your child's first lesson. Bring any pre-owned or privately purchased instruments to school prior to the first lesson for teacher approval.
Transport your child's large instrument to and from school on lesson days (See the Transportation Alert below):
Transportation Alert: State Law prohibits large instruments on school buses. Be aware that parents/guardians will be responsible for the weekly transportation of the Baritone Horn, Cellos, String Bass, Percussion (Snare Drum), and Mallets (Bells). In some instances (with the exception of percussion & mallets), UMIS can accommodate transportation conflicts by providing a "back-up" instrument for in-school use. Please contact Ms. Brunern for guidance.
Help your child set up a quiet practice space and practice schedule.
Encourage and promote regular quality practice sessions at home. Remind your child to check Google Classroom for the weekly practice assignment.
Encourage your child to be prepared for their lesson - remind them to organize & pack their music lesson materials (instrument, lesson book, Chromebook) for school the evening prior to their lesson.
Be involved. On occasion, inquire about your child's lesson and listen to their progress as they grow as players.
Attend school, community, and other performances to encourage your child's musical interests.
