The School of Social Work is located in Peters Hall on the St. Paul campus. The building is open during regular university business hours. The main administrative office is on the first floor in suite 105, and the student services team, including the Graduate Program Coordinator, is in suite 140.
Graduate students who do not have a paid appointment in the school can have access to the PhD student lounge after work hours and on weekends. Students obtain access by completing this online form. Please note that a current UMN ID card is required to request access.
NOTE: There is approximately a one-week turnaround time to get a student’s UCard programmed, so please plan accordingly.
White boards, tables, chairs, computers with internet connectivity, Microsoft Office, and a printer are all freely available to SSW PhD students in the PhD student lounge on the second floor, room 270. PhD students can request a key to the lounge using this form.
All PhD students have a mailbox in the PhD Student Lounge and should check it frequently for information. This room is locked at all times.
The SSW graduate assistant workspace in Peters Hall includes several PC's available for student use. The computer lab is located in room 41 in the basement. The general policy for use of these computers is that they are for SSW graduate assistants for work pertaining to their assistantships.
The SSW does not allow copy machines or fax machines to be used for personal use. Personal copies can be made for a cost at various locations throughout campus.
Locker: Free lockers are available to all graduate students in SSW. Students can request a locker at the front desk in suite 105.
Kitchen Area: Tables, chairs, microwaves, refrigerators, and a sink are all accessible in the student kitchen in the basement. As this is a shared space, students are expected to pick up after themselves and clean any mess created during personal food preparation.
Lounge Area: Couches, chairs, and wireless internet all create a perfect place for students to meet, study, or simply relax in room 45.
Please report any issues with computer systems, printers, trash, or other problems to sswadmin@umn.edu or stop by Peters Hall, suite 105.
Please work together to ensure that Peters Hall is a comfortable and safe place. Keep all areas of the clean in consideration of others.
Please protect the security of access. While Peters Hall is open to the public, it is important to keep the building as safe as possible for the SSW community. Never prop the doors open for any reason. If you are aware of a breach of security or if you see something in the building that needs repair, please report it to the Administration Office (Peters 105) as soon as possible.
