As soon as you have a scheduled defense date, you should do the following:
Pick a defense date/time and email Laura (rose0631@umn.edu) to confirm you've met the requirements to hold a defense.
Appoint your dissertation defense (Final Oral Exam) committee
Download the graduation packet and initiate the Reviewer's Report Form
The Reviewers’ Report form is for doctoral students seeking approval from their reviewers that their thesis/dissertation is ready for their final defense. More about the Reviewer's Report form
Three weeks prior to your defense:
Apply for Graduation: This must be done by the 15th day of the month prior to your graduation.
Create a Zoom meeting for your defense
Send Laura (rose0631@umn.edu) your dissertation defense announcement (see sample) and the Zoom meeting link. Laura will create a RSVP link for the announcement and people who RSVP (and your committee) will receive the Zoom link.
At least 1 week before your defense:
Initiate your Final Oral Exam form (link will be emailed to you from GSSP). Read more about this process here.
After your defense:
Obtain your advisor's signature(s) on these forms and send them to Laura (rose0631@umn.edu) at least 2 days before the last business day of the month of your graduation (by May 26th for May graduates):
Do you want to withhold publication with ProQuest for copyright/publication options? If so, request that your advisor to sign this form.
Finish any revisions to your dissertation and request that your advisor will sign this form.
Format your dissertation in accordance with the Grad School requirements.
Submit your dissertation online (please see instructions here) and submit the deposit agreement to Graduate Student Services and Programs (GSSP)
