GPAS is a contract between the student, program, and the University that outlines the degree requirements that must be completed to receive the PhD. Students initiate the GPAS process by reviewing and submitting the GPAS for approval - the process is entirely online.
Students admitted before Spring 2013 will need to submit a Graduate Degree Plan (GDP) form instead of using the GPAS system.
Submit the GPAS after passing the written qualifying preliminary exam and prior to scheduling the preliminary oral exam. It takes approximately 2–4 weeks for a GPAS to be approved and you will receive email notification.
Step 1 - Go to the Academics tab and then the degree progress tab.
Step 2 - Go to the bottom of the Academics tab and click on the Graduate Planning and Audit System link
Step 3 - Now you should be on the GPAS start page. Scroll down and click the plan by my requirements button to enter GPAS.
Step 4 - Check the supporting coursework section of the GPAS and make a note of any courses that need to be "moved" to this section. Courses with in progress grades (K,X, I) will appear in the "courses not allocated" section of GPAS, but will move into the correct area of the GPAS after final grades are submitted. Non-allocated courses will not be part of the total credit hour total until final grades are entered.
Step 5 - Go back to the GPAS start page to submit the GPAS for approval and send Laura (rose0631@umn.edu) an email with any changes that need to be made to the GPAS.
Laura will review the GPAS for approval and you'll get an email once it is approved. Because the GPAS will automatically update when professors submit final grades, you only need to submit it once for approval.
