Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships (LICs)

What is an LIC?

LIC stands for Longitudinal integrated clerkship. LICs at the University of Minnesota Medical School are available to third-year medical students.

LICs offer students the opportunity to work with and follow patients over an extended period of time; developing an appreciation for continuity of care while completing the majority of their core clinical competencies over multiple disciplines. LICs allow for continuity of relationships with patients, preceptors and the health care system which can allow for a rich education into multiple areas of medicine.

A LIC is an alternative to the traditional block clerkships that are to be completed during medical students third-year of med school.
