Temp/Student Worker

Hiring a Temp or Student Worker

To start the hiring process for a new student or temp worker, email – CBS HR at (cbshr@umn.edu) with the following information:

  1. Worker’s First and Last Name

  2. Worker’s ID# (this will be the student’s ID #, if hire is a student or former student)

  3. Worker’s Contact (email):

  4. Hourly rate (Note: If you need assistance in determining wage, please contact CBS HR for guidance at CBSHR@umn.edu.)

    • The minimum wage for CBS student workers is $15.00/hr.

    • Temp worker can be paid any hourly amount above minimum wage; amount should be within or near market range for job qualifications and duties.

  5. Appointment start and end dates (Note: temp workers appointments are limited to a total of 67 work days; appointment terms should be factored with this in mind)

  6. Average hours per week to be worked

  7. Position/Job Qualifications

  8. Job Duties/Responsibilities

  9. Supervisor to whom worker reports

  10. Account(s) on which appointment is paid

Requesting access to buildings or spaces via U-card, or to request physical keys:

Fill out an online Access Request Form (accessible via link). Sign in with your x.500 and password. Once submitted, this form will automatically be routed to your supervisor for approval (note: we cannot process your access request until approved). A justification of why the access is needed is required.

  • Your access request will be processed by cluster staff within 2 business days (if supervisor approval has been received). If you have requested physical keys, you will be automatically emailed when the keys are available for pickup.

  • To follow up on an access request, email stpadmin@umn.edu. Please include the form number (found in your submission confirmation email subject line) so staff can look up your request in the online workflow.
