Failure to remain in compliance with these requirements may result in a hold being placed on the student’s account, preventing them from registering for classes. Students are not allowed to attend their practicum placement if these compliance requirements are not current.

  • CPR Requirements

  • Physical Exam and Technical Standards

  • Immunizations and Annual Flu Vaccination

  • Background Study

  • HIPAA and Data Security

  • Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Training

Please consult the compliance website for additional details and contact nurscomp@umn.edu with questions about compliance requirements. You can review the Compliance Policy at the link on the left side of this page.

Practicum Requirements

In courses that include practicum/clinical experiences at partner agencies, the student must complete on-boarding site specific requirements and compliance requirements. If these requirements are not met by the specified due dates communicated by OSCAS and the Practicum Placement Office, the result a 1-step grade reduction (for example: B to a B-) in the final course grade for that course. The Program Director will notify specific course faculty to implement the grade reduction. Note: Once all requirements are satisfied (even after the due date) the student may attend the practicum/clinical experience. However, the reduction in the final course grade will remain. Each course may have additional consequences for missed clinical/practicum days as described in the specific course syllabi.

Required Orientation and Training in Advance of Each Practicum Placement

You will be notified by the Practicum Placement Office of any required health care system orientation and training. This will occur in advance of your practicum rotation. You are expected to complete all training and documentation within the required time frame. You cannot start practicum rotations until all orientation requirements are completed.
