Nursing students are assigned two advisors throughout their MN program – a faculty mentor and a professional academic advisor located in the Office of Student & Career Advancement Services. Although you are always welcome to see either advisor for any concern, each has areas of expertise. Please use the information outlined below to determine which advisor you should see for your specific issue or concern.
Faculty Mentor
Faculty mentors are professors and educators in the School of Nursing who have a wealth of experience they can share regarding how to succeed in the academic and practice environment. Faculty mentors are experts in their field, and will be able to answer questions specific to the career of nursing, as well as provide insight regrading a research career as PhD nurse researcher, an advanced practice nurse (DNP), or in advanced leadership roles (DNP). Faculty mentors are available to discuss your academic and career goals. If you connect with your faculty mentor, they may get to know you well enough to write supporting letters when you apply for scholarships or for admission to other graduate or professional programs. You are strongly encouraged to make an appointment to meet with your faculty mentor at least once per semester. Reach out by email and introduce yourself!
You are notified of your faculty mentor early in the program via email. If you have questions regarding your faculty mentor, please contact the Office of Student & Career Advancement Services.
Professional Academic Advisor
Although you are responsible for your degree progress and success, your academic advisor is here to help you with questions or issues that arise along the way. The Academic Advisor for the MN program can assist you with many day to day advising issues such as submitting a form or petition, graduation planning, or accessing campus resources. To make an appointment, contact the Office of Student & Career Advancement Services.
