“So we’ve been producing a bunch, like thousands of our two items and we’ve been freezing them, so we, that way we can just drop them in the fryer day of and then the amount of work we do day of the fair will be a lot less,” said Collin Sandoe.
The vegan butcher shop likes to put a fun spin on their featured fair items every year.
“Every year we have a play on like two movies. So we make little mock-up movie posters, but with two different food items,” said Sandoe.
One of the items this year is inspired by a classic Robert DeNiro film.
“It’s called “Raging Ball” which is a play on “Raging Bull,” the Robert DeNiro movie,” said Sandoe.
The “Raging Ball” is a sesame-covered rice dough ball filled with a “cheeseburger” filling and topped with a bacon-flavored powdered sugar.
The second featured item this year is a giant “pepperoni” pizza roll called, “Honey I Blew Up the Pizza Roll” mimicking the film, “Honey I Blew Up the Kid.”
Being one of the very few vegan butcher shops in the nation, the store draws customers from far and wide.
“The food tastes good and we don’t have options like this where we’re from,” said Lynn Kluntt.
With limited options of vegan fair food, the Herbivorous Butcher is confident that, among the traditional corn dogs and turkey legs, food from here will stand out.
