The Graduate Medical Education Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (GME DEI) Advisory Group is a group of volunteer faculty, staff and residents/fellows working together to:
Develop an understanding of the current state of diversity in graduate medical education programs at the University of Minnesota and throughout the Twin Cities
Develop an understanding of health disparities initiatives and metrics in the institutions our residents and fellows practice
Serve as a focal point for key diversity initiatives impacting residents and fellows
Connect applicants to existing members of the Twin Cities community
Serve as a clearinghouse for best practices around recruiting for diversity
Align with the Medical School's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

As you are already aware, Minneapolis has been witness to the killing of George Floyd at the hands of the police. There are many difficult conversations that we as caregivers must have to advocate for our patients and for our colleagues affected by the structural racism that decimates our communities of color. This PBS documentary that features work done by the "Mapping Prejudice" Project at the University of Minnesota (https://www.mappingprejudice.org/). The documentary explores the origins of housing segregation in the Minneapolis area and how the racial divides that we experience today were perpetrated with laws that promoted and supported discrimination.
