Effective July 1, 2019, the ACGME requires that all programs “provide instruction and experience in pain management if applicable for the specialty including recognition of the signs of addiction.” (Common Program Requirement VI.D.1.)
Fatigue Mitigation Programs must:
Educate all faculty members and residents to recognize the signs of fatigue and sleep deprivation; (Core)
Educate all faculty members and residents in alertness management and fatigue mitigation processes; and, (Core)
Encourage residents to use fatigue mitigation processes to manage the potential negative effects of fatigue on patient care and learning.
