Students enrolled in the PhD degree can add the MS ECE to their program. Below are the steps to add the MS degree to your student account.
The MS degree can be cleared before the PhD, if desired.
To add the MS, please complete the Change of Status form.
For the questions you will answer on the form.
Your proposed change is #2
Current major field and degree objective - EE PhD
Proposed major field and degree objective - Add the MS ECE to my current EE PhD program
Last term registered - this will be the current semester you are in and taking classes/thesis credits. If it is summer, then you would use the previous semester.
Term proposed change to take place - this will be the current semester you are in
Are you planning to complete the major/degree you are currently pursuing - mark YES if you are going to finish your PhD
State your Goals and Objectives - I am adding the MS ECE to my PhD program (if your are finishing your PhD). If you are not planning to finish the PhD, just say that you are adding the MS ECE
After you fill out the form, please sign and send to the Graduate Program Coordinator (ecedgsoffice@umn.edu) to sign for the DGS. The GPC will sign the form and submit it to graduate admissions gsquest@umn.edu.
Once the MSECE has been added to your account, the GPC will add Plan C. If you have completed all the requirements, or when you complete them if you haven't yet, you can apply to have your degree cleared. Here are the steps to clear MS degrees.
If you wish to complete a Master's degree in a different department as well, you can only share 8 credits between Master's degrees. You will need to determine if it makes sense to add the MS ECE in that scenario.
