Current students who wish to be considered for a teaching assistantship should apply online by July 1st for fall semester, November 1st for spring semester and March 1st for summer. Hiring decisions are based on satisfactory performance and progress towards your academic degree. Priority for funding is given to PhD students. English Language Proficiency (ELP) rating earned through coursework with the Center for Educational Innovation (CEI);
Speaking section of TOEFL iBT (internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language).
SETTA (Spoken English Test for Teaching Assistants) test (TC campus) or alternative test chosen by system campuses. This can be taken anytime. If you think you will be a TA in the future, schedule a test now. Time slots before semesters start fill up quickly.
Research Assistantship positions are determined by individual professors. The positions are funded from research grants awarded to faculty members to support their research. A project carried out by a research assistant may be used to satisfy dissertation requirements, subject to adviser approval.
