MEGC social aims to create a community of mechanical engineering graduate students. The goal of social activities is to promote networking among students of different research areas and different years of the graduate program. Social events occur both in person and online. Previous in person events have included monthly coffee hours, happy hours at various local restaurants, and a yearly department picnic. Online social events include virtual happy hours, virtual Jackbox game nights, and Netflix watch parties.

Leagues beginning Sept 10
Want to get a rec sports team together, but don't know where to start? UM Rec Sports is offering flag football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and kickball leagues this semester with leagues set aside for grad student participation - all skill levels welcome! If any of these pique your interest, fill out the form here to be connected with other interested ME grad students.

Recent Events
ME graduate students supported the women's volleyball team against Purdue! They then went to Blue Tractor and enjoyed a wide range of house craft beers paired with BBQ, smoked meats & biscuits.
MEGC hosted a thanksgiving meal to join together and celebrate! A catered meal with thanksgiving favorites was enjoyed.
Fall hike at Kensington Metropark
Located about 20 miles north of Ann Arbor, Kensington Metropark features thousands of acres of hilly woodlands surrounding Kent Lake, and it's at its most beautiful this time of year. Students enjoyed apple cider and donuts while meeting up with old and new friends and enjoying a peaceful fall afternoon!
ME graduate students spent an afternoon paddling down the cascades and Huron river from Argo Livery to Gallup park which is around 3.5 miles. This trip gave a way to celebrate the end of summer before fall classes started and allowed students to socialize with their ME peers!
MEGC x RGSC Barbecue
MEGC and RGSC celebrated the end of summer with a barbecue! Burgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, chips, and watermelon were enjoyed while cornhole, spikeball, and other fun lawn games were played!
Students celebrated the summer with an outing to a Detroit Tigers game!
Hike at Pinckney
MEGC and Aero GSAC went for a morning hike at the beautiful Pinckney recreation area! Known for its extensive trail system, numerous lakes, and remote campsites, Pinckney recreation area offers a serene backcountry experience just 20 miles from Ann Arbor.

Fuller Park Volunteering
The local parks department regularly solicits volunteers to make enhancements to area parks, and MEGC is rallied a group to help out! Volunteering with the parks department is a great way to get involved in and contribute to the awesome city we get to enjoy.

Looking to create more connections with your fellow students in our department? The event was be done to give everyone the chance to have one-on-one and small group conversations with as many other attendees as possible (with fun, ME-related ice-breakers to help get conversations started). We also had lunch catered by Jerusalem Garden for all attendees.
ME graduate students gathered at the Pretzel Bell basement, a classic Ann Arbor bar with an awesome game room and a mystery beer machine. They enjoyed a fun night in our awesome city! Prospective ME grad students also were invited to join!

CSEGrad invited the MEGC community to join a happy hour at Haymaker Public House in downtown Ann Arbor! Students were able to enjoy appetizers, drink specials, and camaraderie at an awesome downtown spot!
Mechanical engineering graduate students and friends were invited out to explore different locations in downtown Ann Arbor! Many costumes made an appearance during the spooky night. Students were able to relax as they enjoyed the many activities each spot had to offer including table tennis, jenga, and karaoke!
A collaboration of the DEI and social committees hosted a celebration of Hispanic heritage month! This event was open to all members of mechanical engineering and included a taco bar and some traditional Hispanic music!
