Outreach Program Overview

MEGC outreach provides opportunities for ME grad students to volunteer in the local student community with a focus on promoting education and an interest in STEM fields for K-12 students. Previous events have included Engineering Club with elementary students at a local elementary school and producing a six-week DAPCEP (Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program) mechanical engineering course for high school students. MEGC Outreach Committee Interest Form

Hello everyone! The MEGC Outreach Committee is focused on organizing k-12 STEM outreach efforts for the ME grad student community. There are two great ways to get involved and volunteer for k-12 outreach. The first is to fill out this form, which will put you on our volunteer interest email list. We will send out opportunities for outreach to this email list so you can be kept up to date. The second way is to join the outreach committee! This provides cool opportunities to develop and lead outreach activities. If you are interested in joining, you can email the committee at megc.outreach@umich.edu.


Xplore Engineering

Xplore Engineering is designed for University of Michigan alumni and the children in their life entering the 4th through 7th grade. Through a series of experiential workshops, participants get hands-on experience in a variety of engineering disciplines. Choose from 17 workshops ranging from nanotechnology to rocketry. 

Outreach with Femmes

We collaborate each year with Femmes (Women Excelling More in Math, Engineering and the Sciences) for outreach with local youth.

DAPCEP

The DAPCEP Program thrives on connecting metropolitan-Detroit youth to exciting educational opportunities in STEM – science, technology, engineering, and math!

On Saturdays during the fall and spring, and in camp-format over the summer, they place youth on university campuses to learn everything from renewable energy engineering to computer programming to the mathematics of music.


Discover Engineering

Discover Engineering is designed for University of Michigan alumni and the children in their life entering the 8th through 10th grade. We work with students to help them gain a deeper understanding of the specific engineering disciplines and help them determine what field of engineering they’d like to study in the future.
