University Health and Counseling - Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides quality counseling and psychological services to support the mental health and well-being of U-M students. Services include individual, group, and relationship counseling as well as a wide range of workshops and outreach programs. Their highly trained staff of college student mental health professionals strive to provide the support students need to thrive at U-M. Services are provided at no cost for students.
CAPS professional staff includes licensed psychologists, social workers, professional counselors, and advanced-level graduate students in mental health fields.
CAPS services are confidential and include brief, time-effective individual, relationship, and group therapy as well as consultations, crisis intervention, online screenings, workshops, outreach presentations, and assistance with referrals.
Common reasons students seek CAPS services include anxiety, depression, emotional management, stress, adjustment, and academic concerns.
CAPS staff also provide consultation to family members, friends, and U-M staff or faculty members concerned about a student.

UHS is a health care clinic and wellness resource located on central campus. See How to Get Health Care.
In-person and telehealth (video, phone, and patient portal messaging) are available.
For patient safety, appointments are required for all clinic visits.
Nurse advice by phone is available day and night, saving a trip to UHS or the ER.
Services are confidential and provided by licensed, credentialed health care providers.
Most currently enrolled U-M students (Ann Arbor campus) pay nothing for most primary care and specialist visits at UHS because they pay the health service fee as part of tuition.
Students (and their health insurance) may be billed for services outside of primary care and specialist visits. See Costs & Billing to learn which services are included and what health insurance is accepted.
Students who need health insurance may purchase the Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan.

Student Life units, services, and programs all work closely together to maximize the student experience. Almost every area is involved in helping Michigan students to get help, get involved, and get active. Student Life provides opportunities for individuals to
find their niche on campus;
connect with students within or beyond each residence hall, organization, or academic program;
get involved in student organizations, leadership opportunities, and campus jobs and internships;
and choose the housing, dining, and living options that work best for them.
