About LSA Opportunity Hub

The LSA Opportunity Hub is the college’s center for career exploration and professional development, specifically designed for LSA undergraduates.

Support

Instructors can refer students to the Hub for support that's tailored to the liberal arts:

• 1:1 career coaching

• funding for internships and professional development activities 

• access to a powerful network of alums and employers

• professional development workshops 

• résumé and interview prep

• internship/job search support

• asynchronous materials - Canvas site

Courses

Their suite of 1-credit Applied Liberal Arts (ALA) courses provides students with structured reflection around their values, identities, and career interests—many of which align well with classroom learning goals.

Collaborate with us

• Request a coach-led Hub workshop (sample topics)

• Apply for a career exploration course integration grant

The Hub also consults on how to support students pursuing graduate and professional school. They welcome opportunities to help students see how their academic experiences translate to meaningful work.

About the Student Employment Office

The Student Employment Office maintains an up-to-date listing of work-study and non work-study positions, both on- and off-campus. Students can view and apply for positions available on the Student Employment Office website seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Students who want to work at U-M or with a university-approved off-campus employer must first complete the online Student Employment Application on Wolverine Access.

About the University Career Center

The University Career Center (UCC) works with students from all schools/colleges and leverages its relationships with employers, alumni/ae, and graduate/professional schools to help students make meaningful connections and career decisions. Students at any stage -- first-year through Ph.D. -- can actively engage with this campus resource early in their academic preparation to develop their career plans, seek full-time jobs/internships, or prepare for graduate/professional school.

Students can:

•  Explore career options through UCC-sponsored Employer Challenges, Immersions, assessment tools (e.g., Strong Interest Inventory, Clifton Strengths), and career coaching

• Solve real employer challenges, connect up-close with diverse organizations, and build the resume-ready experience they need to feel confident in starting a career

• Learn about employer expectations and career competencies/skills needed for new professionals

• Engage with professionals and alumni through the University Career Alumni Network (UCAN) online platform

• Uncover internships and full-time employment opportunities across all industries via Handshake

• Gain exposure to timelines and requirements for graduate and professional school programs (JD, MD, OT, PT, etc.) 

• The UCC actively partners with identity-based units from all schools and colleges, as well as campus student organizations.
