About the Office of Financial Aid

The Office of Financial Aid administers federal, state, and institutional financial aid (grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study) for entering and current students at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

The office of Financial Aid also oversees the Michigan Laptop Program, which provides free laptops to selected incoming students who have been identified by the Office of Financial Aid

Student Financial Services manages student account billing and collection at U-M. There are many resources to assist students and parents with managing and understanding their student's bill.

About LSA Scholarships

The LSA Scholarships Office provides supplemental, need-based funding to help LSA undergraduate students cover the cost of attendance in addition to U-M awarded financial aid.

They manage a dedicated portfolio of scholarships that are 100% donor-funded through generous gifts to the College, including endowments, bequests, and annual donations from LSA alumni and friends.

They support a wide range of scholarships for currently enrolled LSA students through the following programs:

• Returning Student

• Spring/Summer

• Study Abroad, exclusively for CGIS programs

• LSA Internship for Hub and CGIS internship experiences

• Emergency Funding

LSA Scholarships for prospective students:

• Four-Year Renewable (First-Year)

• Transfer Student for external and cross-campus transfer 

• International (First-Year)

These awards match LSA students with donor intent and are designed to help students take advantage of academic, professional, and global opportunities during their time at the University of Michigan.

Their scholarship portfolio represents a subset of all available funding across LSA. Many other scholarships, both need-based and merit-based, are managed by academic departments and units throughout the College.

At this time, they do not award scholarships for graduate students. However, they are available to help connect graduate students with other financial and funding resources.

Students may experience an emergency situation or one-time, unusual, unforeseen expense while in school. The university offers several types of assistance for students in such special circumstances.

The Maize and Blue Cupboard provides:

  • Support - connections to CAPS, the Dean of Students, Financial Aid, SNAP, and other services
