Advanced Research Computing (ARC) at University of Michigan provides "access to and support for advanced computing resources including high performance computing, active & archive storage, cloud computing, and secure computing environments for sensitive data."
Researchers are eligible for the U-M Research Computing Package (UMRCP), with students gaining access through their advisor's resources. Michigan Medicine further expands on UMRCP to offer even more computational time, storage, etc.
Informative google slide deck from Dr. Antonelli: Introduction to Research Computing on the Great Lakes cluster
Great Lakes is the main high peformance computing (HPC) cluster that researchers have access to with these packages.
The cluster can be accessed three different ways through:
Open on Demand web based portal which allows for interactive work through a basic desktop, RStudio, and Jupyter notebooks among other applications.
Command Line by linux-based login nodes to manage files, submit and monitor job submissions (cheat sheet)
Globus to transfer and manage files
