Policies & Procedures Regarding Study Away from Campus

The Doctoral Program in Health Behavior and Health Education is designed as a residential doctoral program. Student’s presence on/near campus facilitates opportunities to access multiple personal and professional resources within the department, the SPH, and the University.

In some instances, students who have attained candidacy may, for professional or personal reasons, reside away from campus for a portion of the time that they are continuing their doctoral studies.

Students should discuss with their faculty advisor the option of a formal leave of absence (not being enrolled in the doctoral program for a period of time) or remaining enrolled and living/working away from campus.

Students considering being away from campus for half a semester (7 weeks) or more during the academic year while remaining enrolled should work with their faculty advisors to develop a plan for their time away from campus, following the Off-Site guidelines. The purpose of the plan is to assure that students continue to make academic progress, establish a plan for communication with their faculty advisors, and consider potential implications for funding and health care coverage.
