Course Exemptions

Students should apply for credit reduction considerations using the Exemption/Substitution form. As part of the exemption petition, the official form, the syllabus and textbook used in the completed course should be included as supporting documentation and submitted to the Doctoral Curriculum Committee for review. In consultation with the faculty advisor, students should determine which courses from their master’s degree program may be eligible for exemption or substitution. The exemption form should be submitted prior to candidacy consideration. It is strongly recommended that students request all exemptions upon enrollment into the program and no later than completion of their first semester. Students who completed their M.P.H. in the HBHE department at the University of Michigan will automatically receive an 18 credit course reduction, but they must apply for the credit reduction using the official form.
