All of the content that ECoach delivers (text messages, emails, surveys, and bulletins) are edited in our companion software tool, the Michigan Tailoring System. You'll create your content in MTS and then use ECoach to deliver it to students.
What's at the Institution vs Coach level?
Course level content goes only to people in the course.
Institution level content goes to people in the entire institution.
Title: Enter a title for your bulletin. The limit is 40 characters.
Subtitle: Enter a subtitle for your bulletin. The limit is 40 characters.
Description (optional): Enter a description of your bulletin that will appear on the bulletin board and when the bulletin is featured on the institution homepage.
Image (optional): Choose a thumbnail to go with your bulletin. The default image is a postage stamp with the ECoach whistle logo.
MTS document: Choose which MTS document to associate with your ECoach bulletin.
Source: Choose the source associated with your institution.
Logic:
If you want to tailor who sees this bulletin, add logic in this box, such as 123 in MessageViewed or GradeConfidence>5 or BegOfTerm=="Complete." You can use the same kind of logic you'd use in MTS.
If you want your bulletin to go to everyone, leave the logic box blank.
Set as Featured Bulletin: Checking this box will assign this bulletin to a priority space on the institution homepage.
Connect to MTS Characteristic: ECoach lets you tailor on whether a student has viewed a bulletin. Choose the MTS characteristic (e.g., "MessageViewed") that you'll assign this bulletin if you want to use it as a tailoring characteristic in other MTS documents.
Note: You'll need to create and publish this characteristic in MTS before you can assign it in ECoach.
Note: Make sure the characteristic has a type of "number no decimal" and "multiple response."
Note: Use a survey when you want to deliver a single, self-contained survey to your institution. Use a survey collection when you want to string together institution-level and course-level surveys.
Title: Set a title for your survey. Students may see the title when they view their "My Account" page, so use a cryptic title if you want to maintain blinded study arms for research.
MTS document: Choose the MTS survey ECoach should deliver.
Source: Choose the source associated with your institution.
Logic:
If you want to tailor who sees this survey, add logic in this box, such as 123 in MessageViewed or GradeConfidence>5 or BegOfTerm=="Complete." You can use the same kind of logic you'd use in MTS.
If you want your survey to go to everyone, leave the logic box blank.
Set as an Access Survey: Choose this option if you want people to complete this survey before having access to anything else in ECoach. (Recommended for a beginning of term survey that asks a lot of your tailoring questions.)
Connect to MTS Characteristic: ECoach lets you tailor on whether a student has completed a survey. Choose the MTS characteristic (e.g., "SurveyComplete") that you'll assign this survey if you want to use it as a tailoring characteristic in other MTS documents.
Note: You'll need to create and publish this characteristic in MTS before you can assign it in ECoach.
Note: Make sure the characteristic has a type of "number no decimal" and "multiple response."
Note: Use a survey collection when you want to string together institution- and course-level surveys. Use a survey when you want to deliver a single, self-contained survey to your institution.
Survey collection title and Pitch: See image below. Students will see the title, so use a cryptic title if you want to maintain blinded study arms. These appear at the top of the coach homepage to signal to the student that the survey is available.
Default source: Choose the source associated with your institution (not a course coach).
Add surveys to this collection:
Add new institution survey: These are institution-level surveys, delivered once to all students in your institution.
Add new coach survey: These are course-level surveys, only delivered to students in a specific coach.
You can use logic to further specify who should see these surveys. See above for more information about logic, access surveys, and connecting to MTS characteristics.
Title: What you type here will appear first at the top of your testimonial.
Topic (optional): What you type here will appear before your title at the top of your testimonial, separated by a hyphen. Topics will only show up if you also have a title.
Testimonial photo (optional): Upload an image of the student with permission from the student. Or choose a relevant thumbnail from the provided images. The default is a postage stamp with the ECoach whistle logo.
Alternative text for testimonial photo: If you upload your own photo, include a brief description of the photo for those using screen readers.
Media content: Your testimonial needs text OR video OR audio.
Author name: If you use students' actual names, we advise getting permission from the student.
Categories: Categories are helpful if you want to filter or search your testimonials to find them more easily, but categories do not appear to students.
For more, see the Coach-Level Testimonials Page.
If you've set up a Source and Characteristic when you added your content in ECoach (see Adding a bulletin/survey above), you can tailor on whether someone has read it (or completed a survey), for example in to-do list items, emails, and other bulletins and surveys.
Find the ID of the item you want to tailor on. You can find it in the Communications page of the Content Manager. See the image below for an example.
Add the logic in ECoach or MTS.
In ECoach, you'll find logic fields in to-do list items, as well as when you add surveys, emails, or bulletins.
You can apply logic to any row in MTS.
In the logic field (in either location) type something like 612 in MessageViewed, where 612 is your bulletin ID and MessageViewed is the name you gave your characteristic in the MTS dictionary.
