Lesson 5: Making Sense of Data!

Overview

Students share and interpret their graphs to discuss and make predictions about the relationship between temperature and tree growth. They interpret scientific models showing the predicted growth of six tree species in multiple greenhouse gas emissions scenarios.

Learning Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • Use a scientific model to study the relationship between temperature and precipitation and tree growth.

  • Discuss the relationship between temperature and tree growth in a future greenhouse gas emissions scenario.

  • Articulate the purpose of a line-of-best-fit and interpret the y = mx+b equation for a line.

  • Describe why it is important to use large data sets.
