Lesson 2 - Introduction to Modeling: Graphing and analyzing phenology data
Overview
Students explore and define the concept of phenology. They explain how changes in temperature influence cherry tree phenology and the implications this could have on crop success. They add a line of best fit to their graph to create a scientific model, and begin to use their model to predict phenological events based on future temperature scenarios.
Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
Analyze and explain temperature and cherry phenology graphs and their implications.
Analyze a model of blooming date as a function of average March temperature by calculating line of best fit.
Use graphical model to predict timing of phenology events based on various average March temperature scenarios.
