6 Feb 2020:
-Install MADGRAPH on local machine
-Set up PYTHIA8 (shower/hadronization) in MADGRAPH
-Generate MG5_aMC>generate p p > t t~ process
20 Feb 2020:
- Meeting with Soubhik Kumar
- Getting an account for T3 Cluster
- Running into trouble by using "scp" because of too many wrong input of the account name
21 Feb 2020:
- Regain access to the account
- Install MADGRAPH, Pythia, Delphes on the Cluster (not successful with Delphes since there is no ROOT)
- Missing Fortran compiler on the cluster (need to find out how to install it on the cluster)
25 Feb 2020:
- Install ROOT, Delphes on local machine, and everything works fine
- Testing the process of p p > t t~ , t > b e+ ve , t~ > b~ mu- vm~ on MADGRAPH. At first, the default number of events for run_card.dat parameter is 10000. Since I run quite a lot of background applications, the computer froze.
- Reducing the number of events to 100. However, plots that was produced by this run is quite different from the one we had in the meting.
3 Mar 2020
- Use "scram arch" to figure out the architecture
- Use quick google search to find out the version of CMSSW version
- Set up CMSSW 10_2_6
- wget MADGRAPH in CMSSW 10_2_6/src
- pythia-pgs work fine. However, "install Delphes" is not working
5 Mar 2020
- Got everything up and working by using CMSSW 8_0_22 instead of CMSSW 10_2_6. However, in the future, it is still useful to check out the above process since it could help identify the correct architecture for the Cluster.
10 Mar 2020:
- Create a new logbooks on the course website
17 Mar 2020:
- Generate 1000 events for p p > gr, (gr > r r, r > j j, r > j j) to get the cross section values for the signal using the default run.card .
- Generate the same process using preselection ptj1min ≥ 600 GeV, ptj2min ≥ 400 GeV, ptj3min ≥ 200 GeV, ptj4min ≥ 100 GeV and etaj <= 2.5 and etab <= 2.5; drbj >= 0.4:
- Used to have permission problems with the background. However, we fixed it using other version of Madgraph (2.7.2).
Mar 30 2020:
- By using Madgraph 2.7.2, the run_card.dat of the imported KKGraviton models does not display the cut for pt, or eta. Therefore, we need to use version 2.6.7 for the signals.
Mar 31 2020:
- Successfully simulate the backgrounds with preselection using Madgraph 2.6.7. In addition, by using Mathematica, we are able to filter out some events from the initial 10000 events. The resulting cross-sections and remaining events are:
