Looking back at my first semester reflection, I noticed I have grown in the written sense when it comes to writing more descriptively about what I have accomplished. Compared to the first semester, I never had much to talk about since I had just begun. But after exploring campus more and going to different art places around campus, it has opened my eyes to talk more about things in a written format. Over the course of the program, my perception of art has changed when it comes to recognizing the perspectives of how we view art. This could reflect whether we look at something positively or negatively. While also keeping me open to the different mediums of art there is to uncover. It is more than just visual art, which is something we should be open to experiencing. A good example of this would be attending the live jazz performance at the Clarice. It opened my eyes to the world of jazz and how much love I have for the medium.
My capstone project had drawn from what I have learned during my two years in the program when it came to our colloqiums. A huge part I had taken from it had been the creative warmups that we had done. This helped out with my warmup building for my workshops. Focusing on some warmups that focused on team building really helped strengthen the environment of my class.
I have expanded my creative abilities by getting into more alternative mediums from our craft and chats. A great example of this would be with the paper clip jewelry held by TA Sophia. It expanded my knowledge on how to create art out of everyday appliances, which is something I never considered. A way I have learned to collaborate effectively would be our first year art exhibition. This dealt with working alongside my TA group to create an effective exhibition using all of the artworks we have created over the years. During the setup, we discuss where our exhibit statement would be placed along with our artworks. All of us had different ideas of where to place certain things while also propping up different mediums to set up.
Overall, my scholars experience will help me in the future since it has prepared me to think outside of the box. When something does not go as planned my time as a workshop leader, what could I do to readjust to make it similar to the original? Along with working collaboratively, I have learned what it means to work as a group and rely on others if I feel a bit stressed. My experience has taught me a lot about myself creatively and professionally, which is something that will be important for my future career.
