"I have been fortunate enough to get to work under Professor Donghyun Kim. I have learnt a lot of new skills and have been working independently towards multi-modal spatial awareness for guide dog robots.
Along with this I have also accepted a Robotics Engineer Research Internship at a startup called Molg.Inc this summer. I will be spending my time working on Robotic microfactories that help make manufacturing circular."
Shiven went on to present his ERSP work at the Massachusetts Undergraduate Research Conference, as well as interning at Molg.Inc.
"Participating in the ESRP had a significant impact on my research interests. It provided me with a solid foundation in research methodologies, which was crucial as I worked on various projects. Overall, ESRP shaped my approach to research by emphasizing communication, teamwork, and adaptability, which have been key to my success in subsequent projects."
Mahika went on to do internships at waters Corporation and MIT, as well as publishing a paper as first author. She was awarded the CICS Undergraduate Achievement Award 2025.
"I did Undergraduate Research Volunteers, completed the first semester of my honors thesis, have been accepted into the accelerated Masters program at UMass and have started taking graduate courses. I am planning on graduating a semester early in December.
I made a lot of valuable connections through ERSP, and gained the confidence in myself to start my honors thesis and apply to graduate school."
Anisha was accepted into the 4+1 Masters program at UMass CICS.
"ERSP has given me a safe place for me to try out researching without any penalties. I had always thought that starting the path to be a researcher would be difficult, and a person would have to take years to finish if they were to choose that path. The amount of time sometimes scared me, but I got the chance to learn new things. I have found the joy and interest in researching not just Computer Science but also other fields. ERSP has motivated me to continue this study path and apply to graduate school."
Anh UMass was accepted to the Accelerated Master Program at UMass.
"Participating in ERSP was a great experience and my introduction to research in CS. It also provided an excellent foundation for my honors thesis research manuscript that I am working on in my senior year on the Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) framework for LLMs. ERSP also encouraged me to a master's in CS. "
"ERSP was pivotal in making me realize that research is the career I want to pursue in Computer Science. The push I got from the ERSP program defined my research trajectory and enabled me to join the Summer ERSP program at UC San Diego, which unraveled the true field I'm passionate about - Natural Language Processing. I've been selected to contribute to cutting-edge NLP research projects with different universities, presented at several conferences, and contributed to research publications."
Ishita went on to work as an intern at Northeastern University's Social Computing Lab and has been accepted to the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Computer Science PhD Program.
"I feel like ERSP helped me dip my toe in the water of research. It definitely showed me that I was interested in research around healthcare, but also looking at other peoples projects I got to see what else I could explore."
Erin was accepted to the Optum Bridges to Technology Research Internship at Carnegie Mellon University.
"I got admitted to the UMass masters in CS program with the Bay State, and I believe ERSP played a huge impact as it showed that I have research experience, and I have what it takes to pursue a masters degree. Although I did not accept the offer this year, I am sure when I apply for a masters/PhD in Computer Science or any field, ERSP will be a big component of my application."
