Academic and Non-Academic Staff Study Leave are given to staff to continue their studies at a higher level, subject to meeting the conditions that have been set.
These programs are created by The Ministry of Higher Education to improve the quality of academics and equip them with a Doctorate Degree (PhD) or equivalent in Public Universities to make Malaysia a regional center of higher education.

EMERALD is a basic training program that is mandatory for new academic staff in UM, including SLAB/SLAI fellows who have just obtained their doctorate degrees.

Internal Training Organized by the Human Talent Development Division is a training course that has been planned through the annual calendar and is in the form of short-term courses.
Leave facilities given to qualified staff to attend scientific activity programs such as seminars, symposiums, colloquiums, forums involving scientific discussions aimed at improving the expertise and professionalism of the staff in their respective career papers.
Research Leave is allocated to University staff according to qualifications for the purpose of:
Conduct research or external studies related to the duties/teaching areas/specializations/staff careers
Collect teaching and writing materials
Conducting research for Master's Degree and PhD candidacy and/or writing a thesis for the purpose of completing a higher degree candidacy (only for Management & Professional Group staff)
Sabbatical leave allows an academic staff (permanent) to improve scientific research, activities, and professional qualifications as well as teaching experience in other institutions of higher learning, deepen the latest developments and advances in a field of specialization and carry out further studies.
