Late deadline is Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11:59pm Central Time on Gradescope. See the syllabus for the policy on late assignments.
Create a Google Site which you will use to showcase what you have learned throughout this course. See my sample site at this link: https://sites.google.com/uic.edu/john-bell-cs-100-portfolio.
You may choose to simply explore and figure out how to create components on your own, or view this video which presents an in-depth tutorial on how to create a Google Site. You may find other online resources that may be useful, so feel free to share those with the class as well.
Within your Google Site, create the following pages:
Home: This page will be the default starting point for your website (meaning that when people click on the link to your website, this will be the page that they see). It should contain:
A brief background on yourself,
A list of at least 3 of your hobbies and special interests, and
A list of at least 3 special or interesting places you've been.
A total of at least 3 photos AND 3 links should be included in this Home page.
Assignments: This page should include a list of all the assignments you have completed so far in the course, along with a sentence explaining the premise of the assignment.
From this Assignments page, there should be a separate sub-page for each assignment that you create. Each assignment page should at the very least contain:
A brief description of the assignment,
A screenshot or picture of the assignment, and
A link to the assignment.
At this point, your portfolio should include a sub-page for this first assignment.
Links: Any interesting links, stories, tips, or things you’ve learned in the class may be added to this page.
You may create additional pages if you would like, but they must be listed after these ones specified above.
Once you have created your portfolio, make sure to publish it - this makes it so that your classmates can see it and so that your work may be graded as well.
To do this, go to your home page and select the Publish blueish-purple button near the upper-right. After doing this, once again go up to the Publish blueish-purple button near the upper-right, and this time select the drop-down arrow (Publish Options) immediately to the right of it, and select "View published site". Copy your new site address and use this to view your site from within a browser incognito window, to make sure the permissions on all your images are such that they show up properly on your pages.
Then turn in your work to Gradescope, which will ask for the link to your online portfolio. This link will be shared with everyone in the class, so that you can all view each other’s work and be inspired by it, and will be used to grade future assignments as well.
This assignment is worth 20 points total.
5 pts: The portfolio has Home, Assignments, and Links pages.
