Tumba Lata (a modified Tumbang Preso) is a native game of the Philippines that is popular among Filipino children. The word tumba means “to fall” and preso means “prisoner.”
Traditional games in the Philippines like Tumba Lata are still a favorite among children even though the times have changed. Revival of these games assures that children would still enjoy playing outdoors and socialize with their fellow. One of the objectives of including traditional games in the current PE curriculum is to raise awareness of our heritage while promoting physical fitness.

Tumba Lata
Variations of "Tumba Lata" in ASEAN Countries
Tumbang Preso in Tagalog and Tumba/Bato Lata in Bisaya literally means “Knock Down the Can” in English.
This game is usually played in backyards, open fields, parks, or in the streets when vehicular traffic is minimal. Tumbang Preso or Tumba Lata is a game that will test your skills in running, speed, and fast movements in varying directions. In addition, your accuracy in hitting the can will also be tested.
The game’s primary objective is to knock down the can with a pamato (slipper) as many as you can in 2 minutes.
Materials: can, slipper (pamato), timer
Mechanics of the game:
The game can be played by 1 or more players who can alternately throw the pamato to knock down the can.
The player/s must draw a line on the ground that will serve as a home base and a small circle with a distance of 6-10 meters away from the base.
Put the can inside the circle and the player will stand behind the line (home base) and start hitting the can.
From the line, hit the can with your pamato as many as you can in just 2 minutes and count how many times you hit the can.
Tips on Playing Tumbang Lata:
Choose a pamato that is right for you.
It should neither be too light nor too heavy for you to handle.
Practice your aim.
Act and react fast.
