YOUTH LIVESTOCK SHOW ETHICS & ANIMAL CARE WORKSHOP

The following information is pulled from the Florida State Fair Exhibitor Ethics webpage for your convenience. Please visit their site to view all information.

The Florida State Fair, along with some County Fairs throughout the State of Florida, believes that every youth exhibitor should receive proper training and information for raising and showing a youth animal project. With this in mind, the Youth Livestock Show Ethics and Animal Care Training Program was developed.

Many Fairs throughout the State are now requiring exhibitors to attend a training workshop. Check the rules, for the Fair you are attending, to see if it is required. This program has been endorsed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the University of Florida, Institute of Flood and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS).

The Florida State Fair believes that every youth exhibitor should receive proper training and information for raising and showing a youth animal project.

The Youth Livestock Show Ethics and Animal Care Workshop is designed to certify students to meet the mandatory certification requirements that will be in effect for the 2023 Florida State Fair. Certifications are valid for three (3) Fair seasons, not 3 calendar years. For the 2023/2024 Fair Season, Certification Numbers starting with 22, 23 and 24 are current and valid.

Livestock Premise ID's

The following information is pulled from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services webpage for your convenience. Please visit their site to view all information.

"As a livestock producer, animal health is a priority to you. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has also made it a top priority by promoting efforts to increase animal disease traceability. The traceability system is designed to enable producers and animal health officials to control devastating livestock and poultry diseases, should they occur in the United States.

Of special concern are animal diseases found in other parts of the world that pose a significant risk to our industry. This modern system is needed to minimize the impact of an animal disease outbreak.

Premises registration is the foundation of establishing a national system. It gives you the power to better protect your animals, your markets and your neighbors in the case of a disease event.

What is premises registration?

A note from the Agent: In order to show at many Florida Fairs and Livestock Shows, a Premise ID is mandatory. A Premise ID is typically tied to a location, not necessarily an individual. Please make sure your Premise ID correlates with where your animal is being housed!
