Many orchestra directors in our area have expressed interest in having the opportunity for their string orchestras to perform in an outstanding facility and to be adjudicated by insightful professionals. There are few local venues for such exposure. It is the desire of the orchestra staff of the Upper Dublin School District to provide this opportunity for our students, our fellow directors, and their students. Our festival will feature both high school and middle school groups both days of the festival—therefore providing the opportunity for orchestra directors of both middle and high school groups to participate with ease with their individual groups on the same or different evenings. The judges are seasoned performers and educators eager to provide encouragement, insight, and commendations to your string orchestra groups.
The adjudicated performances will occur at 20 minute intervals (starting @ 2pm and concluding @ 9pm) and there will be one brief break for the judges—therefore providing the opportunity for at least 17 groups to perform.
Each performing group will have 20 minutes on stage—meaning, 15 minutes of music to be performed, and 5 minutes total to enter/exit the stage. It is assumed that most groups will choose to perform two selections which will total 15 minutes of performance time on stage—however you may perform one long 15 minute selection, or three shorter (2 to 4 minute) selections. Each performing group will have 30 minutes to tune and warm up in a rehearsal classroom prior to their performance on stage. Arrangements for food purchase can be made.
Each group will receive recorded comments from the judges, a written rating sheet from each judge, a superior quality recording of their performance in our marvelous concert hall, and a certificate of participation with a rating to post proudly at home--and, a video recording too!
Notice of this event is shared now so that you and your schools can plan accordingly. Please email your request for a warm up/performance time for 2/26/19, and I will send you a confirmation email, as well as the registration invoice for $150.00 per performing group, and participation information forms to be completed. Registration fees are due by Friday January 17, 2020.
