GRADING POLICIES FOR UDHS ORCHESTRA

Students receive orchestra grades based upon the outline below for each MP.

Marking Period 1 -- CARDINAL ACADEMY

Orchestra students will receive assessments based upon video and audio recorded performance submissions and participation during class meetings.

Graded performance submissions posted as assignments in schoology will be in the form of FlipGrid video recordings of their performances of a variety excerpts from our orchestra literature that we are studying and preparing for concert performances in 20.21, FlipGrid video recordings of excerpts from the High Tech for Strings book, and audio recordings of multiple part compositions in which the student performs/records all parts, and collaborations with fellow students recording the parts to duets/trios/quartets of their choosing from those provided by Mrs. Herrmann for use in classes.

MP 2, MP 3, MP 4--TBA

WHEN INSTRUCTION IS LIVE FACE TO FACE....

* There will be some orchestra enhancement classes which will be pre-assigned to orchestra students by Mrs. Herrmann for the purpose of rehearsals for concerts.

Performance Quiz as a section are in class TBA
Performance Exam as an individual during classes TBA
100 Musical Terms test for MP2 in January, and MP4 in May.
Extra credit may be awarded for participation in MCHSO, PMEA Orchestras, and attendance at specially scheduled after school orchestra events--and are required for Honors Music students.

All Mandatory evening rehearsals and concerts are listed on the UDHS Orchestra calendar of events--IF AND WHEN UDSD APPROVED. An excused absence from an evening rehearsal or concert is only one of the following: extreme illness, serious family crisis, or UDHS sports match that has been rescheduled for that evening. The student and/or parent are to notify Mrs. Herrmann via email at least four hours in advance of the rehearsal or concert, when illness or an unfortunate family event adversely affects the student’s attendance. A written and signed note from the parent verifying this excused absence is to be sent to Mrs. Herrmann by the next meeting of orchestra class. As for a sport match, a written and signed note from the coach is required three days prior to the date of the excused absence—AND this is only for rehearsals, not concerts.
