Audition for PMEA: The student will prepare and audition for the Pennsylvania Music Educators’ Association District 11 Festival. As part of the audition, students with prepare scales, sight-reading, and a given piece of repertoire.
Co-curricular music offerings: The student will participate in TWO co-curricular music offerings per semester to receive credit. The student will follow the attendance and performance policies outlined by the director of the ensemble.
Private Lessons: The student will participate in private lessons with an approved instructor on the instrument they perform in their ensemble. Lessons must be at least once-a-week for 30 minutes. The director will occasionally check in with the student to hear and view their studies.
Journal: The student will maintain a written journal of weekly reflections based upon a suggested list of prompts and/or focusing point of interest as specified by director for that week. The student also must submit a quarterly summary of their reflections for review by their respective director.
Participate in a small ensemble: Students may form organized chamber ensembles of natural instrumentation. Students will be expected to rehearse at least 1x/week for no fewer than 45 minutes. This rehearsal will happen either outside of school hours or during a common study hall (not during class time). The ensemble will prepare at least 20 minutes of music and must perform this repertoire on a concert. See your director for possible small ensemble ideas and concert venues.
Honors Music Recital: Students will rehearse and perform 1 movement from a standard repertoire piece (approximately 3 minutes or more in length) at the Music Honors Recital on May 11, 2016.
The student must provide their own accompaniment. Unpreparedness of the accompaniment can have an impact on the student’s grade.
