What is the Food Recovery Network?

The Food Recovery Network is a national non-profit with a mission to reduce food waste and combat food insecurity through the recovery and distribution of edible food waste. There are 230 chapters at colleges and universities around the nation. UC San Diego's chapter started in 2016 and works on and off-campus to recover food waste from dining halls, farmers’ markets, and grocery stores to feed students and community members facing food insecurity. 

From our start in 2016 to the end of Winter Quarter 2020, FRN has recovered 52,245 pounds of food that would have otherwise gone to waste. Thus, making this a great resource for both commuter students and on-campus students! Different from Triton Food Pantry, students can attend distribution events as often as they'd like. Distribution events happen at two locations: The Hub Student Center A and One Miramar Street at Graduate & Family Housing.
