Tackling our world's evolving climate crisis requires teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking.
The Synthesis Program Project Portal is the central hub for SYN-100, showcasing student collaborations on local and global climate issues. It offers resources for background research, continuing past projects, applying for microgrants, promoting on Seventh social media, hosting events, and displaying work.
As our collective knowledge around the climate crisis expands, so too does the research and solutions held in the Synthesis Project Portal.
how to use the project portal
1. explore past SYN-100 projects using the thematic pages or the search feature
most projects could be placed under multiple themes, so utilize keywords in the search bar if you can't find what you're looking for
EXAMPLE: you may be looking for food waste projects but are unable to find relevant projects under the Food & Food Waste page. You can search 'compost' and will find that some food waste projects are nested under the UCSD Campus theme instead.
2. on each project's page, note if the project is OPEN for continuation or CLOSED and can be used only for inspiration
on each project's page, you'll see an indication of OPEN or CLOSED for expansion.
OPEN indicates that a future Synthesis student or team could 1) pick up your project where you left off; 2) use your project as inspiration within the guidelines of your Creative Commons license choice
CLOSED means: 1) the project is being continued by the original group after the completion of SYN-100, and is therefore unavailable to other groups; 2) the project was done in collaboration with a faculty, staff, or community member and they have determined the project has ended/is closed
3. while planning and executing your SYN-100 project, check out the project resources available to you:
apply for a synthesis microgrant
learn how to host a SYN-100 event or interview
borrow synthesis technology, equipment, or art supplies, or art to complete your SYN-100 project
request that your SYN-100 event or project survey be posted on seventh social media platforms to solicit student responses and collect data
understanding what happens when you publish and license your project protects your group's work and allows for SYN-100 projects to continue growing through collaboration with past and future students. use the Creative Commons License Chooser Tool to make the best choice for your group and your project.
5. gather your work and submit your SYN-100 project at the end of the quarter through Canvas
once you submit your group's SYN-100 google site with all of the required information, your project will be added to the project portal where it can be viewed and used as a resource by future SYN-100 students.
