Move Right gets you moving, and feeling, well at work! Designed for our employees with physically demanding or repetitive jobs, the goal of the Move Right program is to keep our employees pain and injury-free.
A certified, knowledgeable, and experienced Recreation trainer will come to your location and lead an all-levels mobility, stretching, and/or strengthening session. Some tools used include resistance bands, myofascial release balls, and PVC pipes.
This program runs on a quarterly schedule (approximately 12 weeks at a time), and typically groups meet once or twice per week, on a set day(s) and time (e.g. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-10:25 AM).
Requests for participation in the Move Right UCSD program can be sent to tguglielmo@ucsd.edu.
Sessions (and their schedule) are subject to trainer availability.
Offered by request to UC San Diego staff and faculty. These FREE workshops are for employees dealing with (low) back pain, who are looking for ways to understand and decrease their pain, or those looking to prevent it. These 60-minute sessions are led by one of our experienced and knowledgeable Recreation trainers and will provide education, hands-on skills, and tools to improve and relieve low back pain. Participants will be sent home with a self-myofascial release tool (a softball in a sock) that they can use to practice exercises they have learned.
The UC Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a one-year lifestyle change program based on research led by the National Institute of Health and is open to all UC San Diego faculty and staff, their family members, and the community. DPP is designed for individuals 18 years and older who have pre-diabetes or are at risk for type 2 diabetes.
This program provides lifestyle education, encouragement, and the tools necessary to help you reach your health goals. This is a proven CDC program that cuts the risk of type 2 diabetes in half. The program is made successful due to the collaboration of the Recreation Department, Housing Dining and Hospitality, Human Resources, and volunteers within the UCSD community, and is free of charge.
The program includes:
22-26 one-hour hybrid group sessions led by trained lifestyle coaches.
Weekly meetings for the first 12 weeks, then every two weeks, then monthly
Information on nutrition, ways to increase physical activity, stress management techniques, and diabetes prevention education.
Group discussions and problem-solving strategies for overcoming common challenges to lifestyle change.
