Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) (located at Cowell Student Health Center, https://caps.ucsc.edu/counseling/index.html) provides wide range of mental health and wellness services including, counseling, psychiatry, case management services, and can help with alcohol/drug/substance problems, and crisis assistance. These services are all confidential and available to registered UCSC undergraduate and graduate students. There is no out-of-pocket fees for brief on-campus individual and group psychotherapy services and CAPS staff will help facilitate and guide students with off campus referrals as well.

Counseling:

Psychiatry:

-Consultation for medication

Case Management:

-Assistance with obtaining off campus referrals

Grad Talk:

-Free, brief, confidential drop-in conversation with a CAPS therapist

   -Receive consultation, support, advice, and/or referrals

   -Thursday, 1-2PM (Check CAPS calendar for zoom info)

30-Minute Guided Restoration:

-Pause to restore the mind and body

-Learn how we respond to stress

-Improve focus and concentrartion

-Tues, Wed, Thurs, 12-12:30PM (Check CAPS calendar for zoom info)

If you find it is difficult to get an appointment with Counseling and Psychological Services, please see your advisor or graduate coordinator. They can often help students get faster appointments.

The Cove is a safe space to be in community with other students that are committed to their recovery from alcohol and/or other drugs, are the loved one of someone with an addiction, are someone who wants to support those in recovery, are interested in recovery or just want to meet other students who are substance-free and looking for community. Slugs for Health and Growth is also for you if you are seeking:

The Cove has weekly workshops, recovery meetings and drop in hours (when campus is having in-person classes) for students seeking support from their peers. 

Campus Advocacy Resources and Education (CARE) 

Campus Advocacy Resources and Education (CARE) (located at Kresge 174; https://care.ucsc.edu/). CARE advocates to provide nonjudgmental support and resources for members of the campus community (and their significant others) who have experienced sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking. The CARE advocates are able to provide support in a variety of different ways. CARE supports survivors in their decision making and understand the complexities that can arise from these issues.

Legal Consultation for Off-campus Housing Issues

The Student Union Assembly, in partnership with the Dean of Students and the UC Legal/ UCSC Office of Campus Counsel, is pleased to provide UCSC students with access to free legal consultation services related to off-campus, non-UCSC housing issues. 

If you need help understanding your lease agreement or are experiencing a dispute with a landlord, Off-Campus Legal Consultation Services is available to you through McManis Law. 

Slug Support

Slug Support 

(located at Hahn Student Services, email: deanofstudents@ucsc.edu; web: https://deanofstudents.ucsc.edu/slug-support/program/index.html; crisis line: 831-459-7003). 

Slug Support can help students in various kinds of emotional or financial crisis. For example, they may be able to provide emergency food or housing or facilitate connections with other campus support programs. Slug Support manages the food pantry open to all graduate and undergraduate students. 

Slug Support has a dedicated case manager to assist graduate students. If you need assistance with anything, are unsure where to start, and do not feel comfortable discussing your concerns with Psychology Advising, Slug Support is a great first stop.
