Alternative Voices is a spoken word project I started with my students in 2001. The concept was born out of my desire to revive the dying art form of mix tapes and my realization that the students at the alternative program were scoring very high on the voice in the six-traits scoring guide. Hoping to build on this strength, I decided to create a project that would allow that voice to be heard.
Objective:
Improve writing skills specifically in the use of concrete and specific language, and enhance writing with the use of figurative language and sound devices.
Use technological tools and skills to publish student writing to an authentic audience
Your are responsible for writing five poems worth twenty (20) points each for a total of one hundred (100) points.
